At the direction of Town Council, the Community Resource Advisory Board reviewed the Recognition Program and brought recommendations to the Town Council.  On August 15, 2011, the Town Council of Fort Myers Beach adopted resolution 11-12, Citizens of Distinction Awards. 
The Citizens of Distinction Awards are designed to recognize, on an annual basis, outstanding citizens, groups, organizations or businesses that have brought credit to our Town. 
Awards may be granted in each of the following categories:
1.    Arts and Culture Recognition
2.    Athletic Achievement
3.    Beach Heritage
4.    Youth Award of Merit
5.    Mayor's Special Award
