32nd annual holiday lights boat parade is December 5
Members of the Public Works Department prepared the board for the FMB Chamber Parade on December 5

Members of the Public Works Department prepared the Town's boat this week to participate in the FMB Chamber Parade. The same ball that drops in Times Square on New Year's Eve rides on the boat for this annual light parade that kicks off the holiday season on Fort Myers Beach.

Mound House book coming soon for sale at museum store

Crown Jewel of Fort Myers Beach: The Mound House

We are celebrating the first-ever book written about the Town's historic and cultural treasure, The Mound House, which is being released just in time for holiday gift-giving. It is being sold in the Mound House Museum store.

Patrick McKeown, Ph.D, an Estero Island resident since 2003, authored β€œThe Mound House: Crown Jewel of Fort Myers Beach.” The Mound House sits atop a 2,000 year old Calusa Indian Shell Mound. It was acquired by the Town in 2012 and restored to the 1921 era with widespread community and tourist industry support.

McKeown is a Professor Emeritus in the Management Information Systems (MIS) Department in the Terry College of Business at The University of Georgia, of which he was the founding department head. He has degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Professor McKeown authored or coauthored over 30 textbooks in management science, computer science, and management information systems, with more than 50 academic articles.

Dogs are welcome in the Town of Fort Myers Beach

Dogs are welcome on Fort Myers Beach as long as they stay on their leashes and their owners pick up after them and dispose of the waste. Trash cans are located at each public beach access.

However, there is a critical wildlife area at the south end of the beach that is off limits to dogs. Owners are also asked to keep their dogs from chasing or otherwise disturbing shorebirds.

Thanks for being a responsible dog owner and helping keep the beach and wildlife safe and enjoyable for everyone!
