Budget process continues on September 21

The first hearing for the Fiscal Year 2021 budget was Thursday, September 10. The final budget hearing will be on Monday, Sept. 21, at 5:01 p.m.

One important fact about the budget is that the proposed millage rate is recommended to remain at the current year rate of .95.
It will provide the revenue needed to continue current levels of service and repay the loan to improve Times Square, Bay Oaks Recreational Campus, and Bayside Park.

Big Carlos Pass Bridge maintenance to start September 28

A contractor for the Lee County Department of Transportation will be performing maintenance work on the Big Carlos Pass Bridge. Activities are scheduled to start on September 28, 2020, and should be completed by November 20, 2020. Motorists should use caution, as there will be sporadic lane closures.

The contractor will be performing concrete repairs on the bridge deck. The job consists of removing the protective epoxy surface course and then removing and replacing the spalled / unsound concrete below it. Once the concrete has been removed and replaced, the contractor will replace the epoxy coating surface course. The repair locations will be removed and replaced daily. No open spots will be left overnight.

This project is not the whole bridge. It will only be spot repairs where needed. Lee County anticipates that the project will start on the Bonita / Southside of the bridge and move toward the FMB side.
