Army Corps of Engineers dredging Matanzas Pass


The Army Corps of Engineers is dredging Matanzas Pass, weather permitting, through the end of the year. Pumping of the bottom sediment of the pass is occurring currently in the north end of the island out to the Gulf with the contents releasing about 300 to 400 feet offshore. Currently, the contents are being discharged in the Gulf near the Lani Kai, but the end point will move south through the water periodically, ending up around Junkanoo. Because this is not a Town project, inquiries should be addressed to:

Street performer permit process open


Anyone interested in performing in Times Square for the upcoming season needs to have an approved permit from the Town. To be considered for one of the 12 allowed street performer spots, a completed application is required along with a signed background check form, a $75 background check fee, a $75 application fee, and proof of liability insurance. Code enforcement staff conduct interviews and ensure that the performer understands Ordinance 19-06. The application and more information is on the Town's website.

Town budget process continues next week

 

The first hearing for the Fiscal Year 2021 budget is Thursday, Sept. 10, at 5:01 p.m. at Town Hall, 2525 Estero Boulevard. Please note that this Thursday meeting will also include a regular Town Council meeting. Review the proposed budget and additional finance information on the Town's website.

The final budget hearing will be on Monday, September 21, at 5:01 p.m. This date will also include a regular Town Council meeting.

Advisory board and committee applications due September 18


Residents interested in serving as volunteers on various boards and committees that advise the Town Council on island issues are encouraged to apply now for openings. These openings will be appointed by Town Council in October. To be considered, residents need to fill out and return this application on the Town's website. Learn more about boards and committees.
